London Calling.

Ranked number eight on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003, London Calling is set for re-issue Dec. 14. London Calling: 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition will be released 30 years to the day after its original issue in the UK.

The third album by The Clash, the cover of London Calling features a picture by Pennie Smith of Paul Simonon smashing his bass guitar at The Palladium in NYC in September of 1979. The photo has since been named the best rock and roll photograph of all time by Q magazine. The artwork was done by English cartoonist Ray Lowry, who designed London Calling's cover as a tribute to the
debut album by Elvis Presley.

London Calling: 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition will feature the documentary The Last Testament: The Making of London Calling by DJ and filmmaker Don Letts, as well as music videos and home-movie footage of the band.

And, in more London Calling news, beginning "January 7, 2010, U.K. Royal Mail will be issuing a new series of stamps featuring classic album covers from various British artists. With help from several editors of U.K. music publications, the postal company recently narrowed down a list of ten album covers that will appear on stamps in circulation next year. The cover of The Clash’s London Calling made this cut, so if you’re a U.K. resident or in correspondence with somebody who is, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this little piece of rock history!"
